Wolves have had a club-record £16million bid accepted for Manchester City midfielder Oleksandr Zinchenko, according to the Mirror.

The newspaper claim the newly-promoted Premier League club are closing in on the signing of the 21-year-old even though he has jetted out with the champions on their pre-season tour of the USA.

The Mirror report City manager Pep Guardiola is prepared to offload the Ukraine international, who has accepted his career will be best served by a move.

Good move for Wolves?

It is a measure of how far Wolves have come in a relatively short space of time that they are now signing squad players from the Premier League champions. Zinchenko is no bit-part player, either. He is a midfielder by choice, but was used with some success at left-back by City last season and demonstrated the class that puts him on the verge of a record-smashing transfer to Molineux. Capped 17 times by Ukraine, the former PSV Eindhoven player is so good he can play at left-back or anywhere in midfield, both in defensive and attacking roles. Wolves need as many Premier League-class players as they can get and there is plenty of evidence that Zinchenko can make a big impact in the black and gold jersey.

Likely to happen?

It is not a done deal yet (Zinchenko would not be heading to the States with City if that was the case), but Wolves are now well placed to push this vital signing over the line. With a bid accepted, it is now a matter of convincing the player and agreeing personal terms.
