Rangers right-back Jordan Houston has signed a contract extension that will keep him at Ibrox until 2020.

The 18-year-old, who signed his first professional contract with the club last year, has played seven times for Scotland Under-17s.

The news was announced on the official Rangers Youth Academy Twitter account on Tuesday afternoon.

OPINION

This is an exciting time to be at Rangers after a very bad season under Pedro Caixinha and Graeme Murty. Ironically, it was Caixinha who put his faith in some of the Rangers youth talent, giving Myles Beerman and David Bates regular starts under his tenure. We think that the youth system will be handled much better under Gerrard, who came from managing the Liverpool youth set-up. Houston has impressed enough to get himself another year’s contract and that’s a great sign that he’s seen as possessing enough to make moves towards the senior squad in the next two years. He’s been with Rangers for 12 years now, after being spotted by a scout at just the age of five. He made the bench of the first-team in Murty’s first stint as caretaker manager but didn’t make it onto the pitch, and that will be his main aim now as he looks to emulate the football journey of Bates.
