Tottenham are reportedly in a £70million race to sign Crystal Palace forward Wilfried Zaha – and a section of fans are split between claiming he is over-priced and urging the club to spend big on him.

The Daily Mail claim the north London club are vying with Everton and Borussia Dortmund for the Ivory Coast international in this summer’s window.

It is said that Palace have slapped a £70million asking price on their prize asset and this has prompted widespread reaction on social media.

COMMENTARY

The reported £70million Zaha pursuit has certainly attracted plenty of interest from Spurs fans following what has been a slow start to the window for the club. This is not unfamiliar territory for supporters, who are well used to chairman Daniel Levy and his board sitting tight, waiting and then striking late in order to secure value signings. Most of the club’s summer-2017 signings came late in the window in a blizzard of activity. Is Zaha worth the effort? The view of many fans is that he probably is, even though some suspect he is over-priced. Matchwinners are rare commodities in the Premier League and even rarer are ball carriers capable of shredding well organised defences with pace and skill. Zaha is developing into a bona fide star and Palace are lucky to have him. For now.
