Stoke City have tabled a new loan offer for in-demand Liverpool attacker Harry Wilson, according to a reliable journalist.

Telegraph transfer specialist John Percy reported on his personal Twitter account on Monday morning that the Championship big hitters have made a fresh move in a bid to win the race to take the Wales international for the 2018-19 season.

Percy explained Derby County remain in pole position to land Wilson, 21, on loan after he held talks with their recently-appointed manager Frank Lampard over the weekend.

Good move for Stoke?

Yes, definitely. Wilson is so in demand because he is so exciting. Championship clubs have beat a path to the 21-year-old’s door in the last few weeks after it became clear he is not quite ready to play for the Liverpool first team. No shame in that when his rival for the right-sided forward role is Mohamed Salah. Like the Egyptian king, Wilson is a left footer who cuts in from the right flank. The Welshman also has a real eye for goal, not only scoring prolifically for the Liverpool Under-23s but also netting seven times in the league from 13 matches on loan at Hull City last season. It is precisely that kind of cutting edge that Stoke, Derby and others are desperate for.

Likely to happen?

Stoke are pushing the boat out to get this done, as evidenced by their improved offer for Wilson. But if the super-reliable Percy says Derby are the favourites, you can be sure that is the case. Lampard is the new manager and, while inexperienced in dugout terms, he has a stature that demands respect. He could be the key to fending off the recently-demoted Potters.
