West Ham are in the hunt to sign Sevilla defensive midfielder Steven N’Zonzi this summer, according to Le10Sport.

The French news outlet claims that Arsenal and Everton are also in the race for N’Zonzi’s signature after the Daily Mail reported that the 29-year-old had handed in a transfer request at the La Liga club and could be available for £22million.

It is understood that there have been no offers made yet for the 6ft 4in (transfermarkt) colossus, however things may change after the midfielder returns from the World Cup where he is representing France.

Good move for West Ham?

N’Zonzi has improved a lot since his days at Blackburn and Stoke and has turned into one of the best defensive midfielders in La Liga at Sevilla.

Last season, the giant Frenchman made 44 appearances in all competitions for Sevilla, helping them earn draws against Liverpool in the Champions League group stages before being part of the side that knocked Manchester United out in the round of 16.

He would definitely be a good fit for West Ham and as Manuel Pellegrini has so far focused on improving his defence, he would be adding a perfect shield to his backline by snapping up N’Zonzi.

Likely to happen?

N’Zonzi is surely going to be on the move this summer after he reportedly handed in a transfer request, however the Daily Mail’s report suggested that Arsenal are firmly in pole position to land the ex-Stoke enforcer.

He would cost a lot for the Hammers to sign having already spent over £20million on Issa Diop and if they were going to spend north of that figure again, it would more than likely be on an attacker.

West Ham could yet put themselves in the position to land N’Zonzi, but at the moment, it seems unlikely.
