West Brom are in hot pursuit of Leeds United defender Pontus Jansson and have contacted the Yorkshire club about signing up the Sweden international, according to Expressen.

The Swedish news outlet claims that the Baggies have “concrete interest” in the 27-year-old after a two solid seasons at Elland Road that have seen him make 79 first team appearances across all competitions.

Jansson is not the only Leeds player that West Brom have interest in signing this summer as Football Insider has recently reported that the Black Country club is lining up a bid to re-sign Kemar Roofe.

Good move for West Brom?

Jansson was very good for Leeds in his debut season at Elland Road, helping the Whites finish seventh in the Championship table alongside Kyle Bartley in the centre of defence.

Bartley is widely reported to be on his way to The Hawthorns this summer so there is a chance that Darren Moore is trying to put together a back-line that resembles what Leeds had under Garry Monk just over a year ago.

Many Albion fans will also see Jansson as their new Jonas Olsson, who helped establish the club in the Premier League.

Jansson would definitely be a good addition, but the Yorkshire giants are surely going to want a huge fee.

Likely to happen?

Leeds only have Jansson and Liam Cooper as their senior centre-back options going into next season, so the chances of them being willing to sell the Swede at this stage are slim to zero.

However Jansson is clearly someone who wants to play in the Premier League and may see West Brom as offering him a better chance of achieving that dream by promotion next season.

Will he try to push for a move? There is a chance, especially if it means he could reunite with Bartley there.
