West Brom are not interested in re-signing Kemar Roofe from Leeds United this summer – and that should be a major relief for Baggies fans who would have been constantly frustrated by their former attacker if they were to snap him up.

Football Insider reported earlier this week that Albion are lining up a bid for Roofe, 25, after he scored 14 goals and supplied six assists in 39 appearances across all competitions for the Whites last season.

However Express & Star journalist Matt Wilson, who covers West Brom, has since denied that the Baggies hold any interest in welcoming Roofe back to The Hawthorns on his personal Twitter account.

While West Brom fans do tend to fantasise about re-signing some of their former players, Roofe should not be one of them and this should be a relief that they are not looking into bagging the former Oxford United star.

Roofe is way too inconsistent and has not proven himself to be any better than what Darren Moore currently has in his squad during his time at Leeds.

While from the surface his stats look good from last season, looking at them a bit more closely proves that six of his 14 goals came in hat-tricks against bottom-half QPR and League Two side Newport County in the Carabao Cup.

Roofe has also failed to show a good work ethic in his time at Elland Road and too often fails to track back and support team-mates.

To get back to the Premier League, not only do West Brom need better players than the 25-year-old Leeds man, but they also need players who are willing to pull their weight and really put their body on the line for the team.

Roofe will not do that and that is why this development is such a welcome piece of news for the Black Country club.
