Newcastle United are plotting a last-gasp swoop to hijack Bestikas’ efforts to sign Swansea forward Andre Ayew, according to HITC.

The news outlet claims that the Turkish giants have been in talks with Swansea over signing Ayew, 28, on a loan deal with a view to it being made permanent.

However it is understood that the Magpies are planning a late move to beat the European club to the Ghana international’s signature, just under seven months after he re-signed for the Swans in a deal worth £18million from West Ham.

Good move for Newcastle?

Ayew only joined Swansea in January and failed to score a single goal for them on his return to South Wales as the club was relegated to the Championship.

He scored six goals in all competitions for West Ham before moving to the Liberty, but this is by no means the goalscoring record that Rafa Benitez needs in a striker that he is looking to sign.

Ayew just does not score enough goals and he is not an out-and-out forward as he usually plays a lot on the wings as well.

Newcastle fans do not seem too thrilled about the prospect of signing West Brom’s Salomon Rondon, but he is a much better bet than Ayew.

Likely to happen?

Bestikas are understood to be in pole position at the moment, but Newcastle will surely be able to change that if they were to make a move of their own in the coming days and weeks.

Ayew has spent a good chunk of his career in England so would more than likely prefer to stay in the Premier League than head to Istanbul.

It all depends on who Benitez wants to spearhead his attack next season though, and Ayew is not exactly the most promising of targets.
