Rangers are looking at Blackpool centre-back Curtis Tilt, according to a reliable journalist.

The Sun’s transfer expert Alan Nixon has claimed that he is an alternative for Millwall’s Jake Cooper if Gerrard can’t land his preferred option.

Tilt, 26, only joined Blackpool last season from Wrexham and made 45 appearances for his new side.

According to the Daily Mirror, Blackpool want £1m for him after Ipswich opened talks and made a £550,000 offer for the enforcer (Live blog, July 8, 13.54).

Good move for Rangers?

Jake Cooper is the player that Gerrard wants and he’s the player that Rangers fans want. However, he won’t come cheap and if Rangers can’t afford him or Millwall won’t sell, then Tilt could be an affordable option. It would be a surprise move though, and maybe for no one more than the player itself. Tilt has only had one season outside the non league and although he impressed for Blackpool, a move straight to Ibrox on one of the biggest stages in Britain would be a sensational upgrade for the enforcer. Nixon is a reliable source though and he could well be seen as adding the depth to the squad that Gerrard needs to fight on all fronts this season.

Likely to happen?

It all comes down to Cooper and whether Gerrard can and his preferred defensive target. Tilt would surely jump at the chance to be a part of the Gerrard revolution at Rangers and Blackpool would make an instant profit on the player that they signed for free. He only has one year left on his current contract, and if Cooper falls through it could be a win/win, with Tilt ending up at one of the biggest clubs in Scotland and playing for Gerrard.
