James Morrison is set to sign a deal with his former club West Brom despite having become a free agent last month, according to the Express & Star.

The outlet report that although Morrison was released by the Baggies at the end of June, the Scot has been proving his fitness in pre-season training and has done enough to be offered a contract.

The report reveals that the 32-year-old was earning £60,000-per-week on his previous deal at the club and a new contract would extend his stay at Albion into the 12th season.

The Scotland international scored for the club in a recent pre-season friendly against Barnsley on Tuesday as they ran out 3-2 winners.

Good signing for West Brom?

Not good, it would be a great signing.

Every West Brom fan knows the quality that James Morrison has, but he hasn’t featured as much as he’d have liked due to a troublesome Achilles injury that has dogged him for the last few seasons.

He is probably the most naturally talented midfielder at the club and Darren Moore has been sensible in judging his fitness before looking at a new deal for him.

He could be a key player this season.

Likely to happen?

It’s absolutely nailed on.

The Scotland international has been at The Hawthorns for over a decade and the Baggies fans adore him, it’s the perfect place to continue his career.

The only small issue is his fitness, but as he’s played in a few pre-season friendlies and been regularly involved in high-intensity training sessions, I think that he’s answered all the question marks that were over his head.

Expect this to happen imminently.
