Rangers first team goalkeeper Wes Foderingham is set for a surprise sale from the club this summer as Steven Gerrard plots a double senior exit at Ibrox, according to the Scottish Sun.

The newspaper claim that the 27-year-old shot stopper, who was a mainstay in the senior side last season with 37 appearances across all competitions, has been told that he is set to be the third choice keeper behind summer arrival Allan McGregor and former understudy Jak Alnwick, and as such the Gers are open to selling him.

He could reportedly be followed out the exit door by fellow first teamer Lee Hodson in a double departure, the full back said to be a target for Championship side Rotherham United on loan.

Good move for Rangers?

It will come as a massive surprise to the Ibrox faithful to see that it is long-serving star Foderingham, and not Alnwick, who is set for the exit door.

Perhaps it is because the former is seeking regular first team football, and deservedly so, while the former Newcastle man is happier to sit on the bench as back up to McGregor.

If that is the case, then it is not necessarily a good move for the club, but the right move, letting him leave in order to continue his career rather than sitting it out on the bench.

Likely to happen?

It all depends if Foderingham gets the suitors that Gerrard is hoping for.

While an exit might be what the boss wants, he will not be sanctioning a sale if the price is not right.

Still, now a decision has seemingly been made about what the future holds for the goalkeeper, there will most certainly be more enquiries about his services, and an exit before the end of the summer window seems likely.
