Everton attacker Henry Onyekuru is on the verge of joining Galatasaray on a season-long loan after passing a medical with the Istanbul club, according to Turkish-Football.

The news outlet claims that Onyekuru, 21, jetted out to the Turkish capital on Monday to wrap up a temporary switch to Galatasaray, who are set to beat bitter rivals Fenerbahce and Besiktas in the race for his signature.

It is understood that the promise of Champions League football is what attracted the Nigeria international to Galatasaray, where he will now surely hope that he has a better loan spell than he did at Anderlecht last term when he missed a chunk of the season with a knee injury.

According to Spotrac, Onyekuru earns £31,000-a-week on his deal at Goodison Park, but he is yet to play a game for the Blues since signing from KAS Eupean last year.

Good move for Everton?

Onyekuru would not have been able to play for Everton next season because he still has not managed to gain himself a work permit in the UK.

He needs to earn more caps for Nigeria, and missing out on their World Cup squad this summer will have seriously harmed his chances of getting one in the next 12 months.

Sending him out on loan is the best way to ensure that his development does not stall and Galatasaray is surely a good place for him to.

He will be able to earn more Champions League experience and get more used to playing for a winning team that is constantly in the hunt for trophies.

It could also boost his transfer value if the moves goes ahead because at the moment, his resale value will be pretty low because of his lack of work permit.

Likely to happen?

Galatasaray have already confirmed on their official Twitter account that they are in negotiations to sign Onyekuru on loan this summer, so it does seem as though this deal will be wrapped up at some point.

With the medical now passed, it should not take long for him to be unveiled as a player of the Turkish giants, at least on a temporary basis.
