Celtic have joined the race for Tottenham youngster Reo Griffiths, according to the Sun.

The outlet claims that the Scottish giants are interested in signing the 18-year-old striker, who has yet to sign a professional deal in north London, with European giants Paris Saint Germain and Real Madrid also holding an interest.

The report reveals that Brendan Rodgers’ side are hoping to secure the signing with the promise of regular football and a taste of the UEFA Champions League.

It is said to be understood that Spurs have offered Griffiths his first professional contract to try and tie down the wonderkid, but as it stands, the North London side would only receive a small compensation fee if the player decided to leave.

OPINION

Wow, this kid must be some player if these massive European clubs are reportedly scrambling for his signature. Obviously, the lure of clubs like Real Madrid and Paris Saint Germain cannot be compared to, especially with the money they are able to offer. It’s very easy to be tempted by a big contract at a young age, but the most important thing for Griffiths right now is that he plays football on a regular basis, something that gives Celtic the upper hand in this race. The Scottish club have proven over the last few years that they will give first-team opportunities to youngsters to develop their young talent and help them improve. Players like Moussa Dembele, Odsonne Edouard, Virgil van Dijk, Victor Wanyama and Stuart Armstrong to name just a few. If he’s good enough, which it sounds like he is, then the 18-year-old will get opportunities to play regular football and, will be involved regularly in European competition.
