Everton have confirmed that they have agreed a deal to sell Dutch midfielder Davy Klaassen to join Bundesliga Werder Bremen.

The Toffees announced via their official Twitter account and official website that the 25-year-old has moved to Germany on a four-year deal after a difficult stint on Merseyside.

The Liverpool Echo claimed on their website that Klaassen was sold for £12m to Werder Bremen after making 16 appearances for Everton last season.

Klaassen joined Everton from Ajax in 2017 after leading the Dutch side to a Europa League final but was unable to step up to the high standards of the Premier League.

OPINION

Klaassen was an Everton player that the supporters were very excited about when first arriving last summer. The prospect of the Ajax captain was strong and the Dutch international was thought to be a great deal for the club despite paying £23.6 million for the midfielder. However, Klaassen entered a list of players who just could not deal with the physical standards of the English game and, unfortunately, was not given a chance after an early string of negative performances. The 25-year-old endured very little playing time last season and struggled to gain Premier League minutes. Klaassen will leave without causing any controversy towards the fans but he will leave Merseyside filled with disappointment.
