Wolverhampton Wanderers have agreed a deal to sign Manchester City wing-back Oleksandr Zinchenko, according to a reputable journalist.

Trusted journalist Tim Nish has revealed that Wolves have agreed an initial £12million with the Sky Blues for the Ukrainian, rising to a potential £16million.

The report reveals that the payment terms in what is the latest ambitious transfer move from the Midland’s club this summer.

If the transfer goes through, it will break the club’s transfer record, surpassing the £15.8million signing of Ruben Neves last summer (Express & Star).

The former-FC Ufa player made 14 appearances for Pep Guardiola’s side last season, after being left short at left-back following Benjamin Mendy’s knee injury. However, Zinchenko is actually a natural midfielder, who was coached to play that role by the City boss (TransferMarkt).

Good move for Wolves?

This is a strange one.

Oleksandr Zinchenko is a very good player, as proven by his performances in the Premier League last season, but Barry Douglas was the best left wing-back in the Championship last season and provided 14 assists for his teammates from that position in 39 league appearances (TransferMarkt). It’s strange that Nuno Espirito Santo would want to buy some to replace 28-year-old after such a good season. Maybe he wants two good options in that position. Even so, they’re still buying a good player.

Likely to happen?

It looks very likely if a fee has already been agreed between the two clubs. The only obstacles to the deal being done now are personal terms and a medical. With Wolves’ ambitions, personal terms shouldn’t be a problem, even on a Manchester City wage. With every new signing, the Midland’s side are becoming more and more of a Premier League force. Expect a number of new signings still to come.
