Wolves defender Coady is most likely next West Brom signing

|

Wolves defender Conor Coady is the most likely player to be the next signing made by West Brom this summer, according to Football Whispers.

The football news site claims that Coady, 25, is firmly in the running to swap Molineux for The Hawthorns after a truly dazzling 2017/18 season in which he helped Wanderers win the Championship title and promotion to the Premier League.

Coady made 48 appearances across all competitions for Wolves, playing a key role as their ball-playing centre-back after Nuno Espirito Santo took the decision to change him from a defensive-minded midfielder into a member of his back-three.

Football Whispers, which collects transfer rumours from around the world, has calculated the likelihood of the ex-Liverpool player as being West Brom’s next signing as 3.3 out of 5.

OPINION

Coady was a real mainstay for Wolves last season as they won the Championship title, and it would be a real shock to see Nuno cash in on the 25-year-old this summer. He wore the captain’s armband for most of the club’s games last term and was perhaps one of the most pivotal players in the manager’s system because of the way he brought the ball out of defence. West Brom do need players like that, but the chances of getting one from their Black Country rivals are slim to say the least. The last time a player made a direct switch between the two clubs was Paul Edwards in 1994, so the likelihood of that happening this summer are very low. Coady is a real fan favourite after last season and it would be a real shock if he was to ditch the club in order to drop down a division.
