West Ham have approached Celtic with an enquiry about midfielder Oliver Ntcham, according to L’Equipe.

The French newspaper claims on their website that the Hammers have made contact with the Scottish Premiership champions in recent hours as they aim to sign up the 22-year-old Frenchman.

Ntcham has been in the form of his life at Celtic Park after joining the Hoops from Manchester City last summer.

He scored in the 3-1 Champions League win against Rosenborg on Wednesday night, his 10th goal for Celtic in his 51st appearance in all competitions.

Good move for West Ham?

Most English football fans would be turning their noses up at the Scottish Premiership and what sort of players they have to offer, but Ntcham is someone of real quality who is bound to move back south of the border at some point in his career.

West Ham would be perfect for him as well as Manuel Pellegrini could do with a midfield kingpin like the ex-Man City man.

He can play in a defensive midfield role, or if needed, he can push forward into an attacking area.

Ntcham is an absolute machine that never tires and never stops chasing down opposition players. His passing is on point and he pops up with important goals.

Hammers fans should definitely be happy about this potential signing.

Likely to happen?

Celtic are very unlikely to want to cash in on Ntcham.

He is extremely key to Brendan Rodgers’ midfield and still has three years left on his contract, so the Bhoys are under no pressure to sell him.

The only way you can see this move coming about is if the midfielder pushes for a switch to the London Stadium himself, but that seems unlikely at this stage.
