West Ham defender Winston Reid is the most likely player to be signed up by West Brom next, according to Football Whispers.

The football news site claims that the 30-year-old New Zealand international is firmly in the running to join the Baggies this summer – even though he is set to miss the next three months of action with a knee injury.

Reid, who earns £70,000-a-week on his deal at West Ham according to statistics website Spotrac, made just one appearance between early January and the end of last season due to continual injury woes.

Football Whispers claims he could be heading to The Hawthorns as Darren Moore’s next signing though, after collecting transfer rumours from around the world and calculating the likelihood of the deal happening at 2.8 out of 5.

OPINION

West Brom are still in desperate need of new centre-backs even though they have already signed Kyle Bartley from Swansea. Gareth McAuley and Jonny Evans have both already left while Craig Dawson has been continually linked with leaving for Burnley and West Ham. And now it appears that Reid is being linked with heading to the Black Country, however this deal just does not seem to make sense. Reid is a big-earner at the London Stadium and still has another five-years left on his deal. There’s no way he would want to leave for a team in the Championship who would not be able to meet his wage demands. There is also his injury issue and West Brom will surely want players who are ready to play now, not in October. It’s really hard to see this transfer deal happening in any way, shape or form because of these reasons.
