Tottenham have approached Roma with an enquiry about dazzling attacker Diego Perotti, according to Sport Mediaset.

The Italian news outlet claims that the Serie A giants will consider selling the 29-year-old Argentina international this summer due to the imminent arrival of Malcom, and Spurs are interested in snapping him up.

Perotti, who is known for his pace and mesmeric dribbling ability, was in impressive form in the 2017/18 season, scoring eight goals and supplying five assists in 35 appearances across all competitions as Roma reached the Champions League semi-finals and finished third in Serie A.

Good move for Tottenham?

Perotti was in decent form last season – but only when he was not injured.

The Argentina international spent a lot of time on the sidelines with various injury issues, which meant that he started just 17 games in Serie A.

If Tottenham are in the hunt to sign a new left-sided winger, they need someone who has proven that they are able to keep themselves fit, otherwise they could be wasting a substantial amount of money.

Perotti would be a good back-up option, but not if he is constantly out of action, so Mauricio Pochettino may want to avoid signing the ex-Sevilla attacker.

Likely to happen?

Spurs are yet to sign a single player this summer, with the only player that has been reportedly close to moving to North London being Jack Grealish.

The Aston Villa ace is a similar type of player to Perotti thanks to his pace and dribbling technique, so this suggests that Pochettino would be after one of them, and not both.

As Grealish is young and English, it makes more sense that Tottenham would go after him.
