Rangers should sign Oliver Burke on loan after West Bromwich Albion’s relegation to the Premier League, as his long-term future is uncertain.

Burke’s transformation from promising youngster to an outrageous talent happened very quickly.

There was a sprinkling of first-team appearances for Nottingham Forest and a loan move to Bradford City in 2014/15, in the following year he made 18 appearances for Forest, scoring two goals.

Then all hell broke loose. In 2016/17, he scored four goals and provided one assist in the first five Championship games of the season and all of a sudden, he was a man in demand.

Some of the biggest clubs in Europe were circling and the Scot eventually decided on a move to Germany with RB Leipzig, who paid £13.4 million for his services.

In his debut for the Bundesliga club, his fantastic run and cross set up the winner in a 1-0 win against German giants Borussia Dortmund, in what was a great start to his career in German football.

He would score and get an assist in his next six appearances, but then started to struggle with the tactical side of the game and his confidence dropped dramatically, making just 25 appearances all season.

West Brom brought him back to England, paying the same fee Leipzig did, £13.4million, and there was a sense that 21-year-old would light up the Premier League.

But due to catastrophic managerial appointments and a poor squad, The Baggies were relegated and Burke barely made an impact.

The Scotland international needs to get his mojo back and Steven Gerrard’s Rangers side would be the perfect place to do that. He would make a real impact in Scottish football and Gerrard could coach him and improve him in training.

To buy him outright would be too much for the Gers to afford, but a loan deal would make sense for both parties. Burke is still one of Scotland’s best talents but his form has stalled in recent months, maybe a move to Ibrox could kickstart his career.
