Rangers could offer former skipper Lee Wallace to Hearts as the Glasgow side continue their efforts to sign striker Kyle Lafferty, according to the Scottish Sun.

The newspaper claim on their website that Lafferty may leave Tynecastle with just one year remaining on his contract and Gers could use left-back Wallace, their former skipper, as an option to get a deal done.

The Sun claim that the Ibrox club are unwilling to increase their initial £200,000 offer for Lafferty, with the Northern Ireland international now facing the prospect of having to hand in a transfer request to force through a move.

Gers boss Steven Gerrard has been seeking attacking options for his side and Lafferty has emerged as a prime target for the Liverpool legend.

Good move for Rangers?

Lafferty netted 19 times in all competitions last season in a Hearts side which finished sixth in the Scottish Premiership.

At the age of 30, Lafferty has few years left of his playing career and this could be the only chance to return to Rangers with Gerrard desperate to bring in new players, notably in attack.

Selling left-back Lee Wallace would be a clever switch, with Rangers fully equipped of defensive options.

Likely to happen?

Hearts will not sell their main striker for a cheap fee and Rangers must reply with an offer the Jambos will struggle to refuse.

Lafferty has just one year left on his contract and could be persuaded to switch from Edinburgh and Glasgow, but using Lee Wallace as a makeweight option may not go through.

The opportunity to work with Steven Gerrard will be an attractive offer for Lafferty and to be part of a squad who are beginning a new, intriguing path under their new manager.
