Club Santos Laguna have completed the loan signing Rangers forward Eduardo Herrera.

The Mexican club, who play in green and white hoops, announced the capture of the 29-year-old senior player on their official Twitter account.

The Mexican forward joins the Liga MX side on a loan deal after scoring just twice in 24 appearances for the Scottish giants.

Herrera joined the Gers from Mexican side Pumas in July last year, but will return to the Mexican top-flight after a single season in Scotland.

OPINION

Steven Gerrard will be glad to get rid of Herrera after such a poor goalscoring record in his single season in Scottish football. This also will free up some extra wages for the new manager to spend on players that he wants this summer. The Mexican has never been a great goalscorer, which is worrying for a striker, having scored just 56 goals in 186 appearances for Pumas before his move to Scotland. Someone at Ibrox thought it was a good idea to bring him from Mexico and pay a transfer fee for his services, when it clearly was a very poor idea indeed.  It would have been better to include a youth player in the team last season, so that they could have gained invaluable experience, so poor was Herrera’s form for the SPL side last season. If Gerrard can’t find a replacement for the 29-year-old, he should give a place in the squad to a hungry young player, then he can look to develop the player as the season goes on.
