Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers was delighted with the performance of club record signing Odsonne Edouard after netting twice against Rosenborg.

Edouard, who joined The Bhoys for £9 million from PSG, led the fightback at Parkhead as Celtic defeated their Norweigan opponents 3-1 to move to a step closer towards Champions League qualification.

The French youngster grabbed an important equaliser for The Hoops before scoring their third, to the delight of his new manager.

“He has shown it from the first day he walked in the building,” Rodgers told the Daily Mail.

“For a boy of 20, it is impressive.

“His first goal looked so simple. But when you watch it again, his movement to create the space and then just pass it in was excellent.

“He timed his run for the second goal perfectly. The full-back, the right-back, keeps him onside.

“That is a mark of top, top strikers — a boy to have that confidence on the big occasion. To show that calmness under pressure was brilliant.”

With Moussa Dembele and Leigh Griffiths both on the injury list, Edouard led the line in terrific fashion and has given Celtic a huge advantage going into the second leg. Both goals were taken with great confidence for a player who has just finished his teenage years. It is clear to see why The Bhoys were so keen to bring Eduoard to Parkhead on a permanent basis after a successful stint last season and it looks like he can replicate the form he had shown during his loan spell. Spending a club-record fee for Eduoard shows that the club have belief in the youngster and, after a spirited performance against a respected club in Rosenborg, he seems to paying his dues in an important role for the club. He is highly admired from his manager which should give the forward a great deal of confidence for moving forward into the important stages of the upcoming season.
