Wolves are plotting a transfer raid for Besiktas and Portugal defender Pepe this summer, according to Fanatik.

The Turkish newspaper claim on their website that the midlands side have held initial talks with the Super Lig club, asking about the availability of the 35-year-old, who is said to have had a £6.2million (€7million) valuation slapped on his head.

The 99-cap international, who played in four matches for his country at the summer World Cup, has three Champions League wins under his belt during his time at Spanish giants Real Madrid, and is heading into the final year of his contract in Turkey.

Good move for Wolves?

Does Nuno Esperito Santo think he is playing a game of Football Manager or something?

Pepe is a world famous name for his performances while with Real Madrid, as well as on the world stage with Portugal, but his reputation cannot be allowed to precede his ability.

At 35, he is heading into the twilight of his career and there must be many doubts about whether he has the physical ability to keep up with the breakneck pace of the Premier League.

He proved himself with Portgual in Russia, but keeping up consistency over 38 games is going to be a much tougher task.

A marquee signing to add to the long list of exciting arrivals at Molineux – but perhaps not what they need.

Likely to happen?

Who knows whether this is going to come off – that is how incredible Wolves’ transfer business has been this summer.

Nothing seems out the realms of reality and if he were to arrive at Molineux, it would be with a lot of attention from fans not only in England but worldwide.

Still, the Wolves faithful should take this one with a pinch of salt.
