Wolves are being made to wait in their quest to sign Manchester City midfielder Oleksandr Zinchenko, according to the Express & Star.

The outlet report that Premier League giants City are refusing to sell Zinchenko at the moment because they’re missing some key players as part of their pre-season squad, with Benjamin Mendy still working towards full fitness and Fabian Delph on holiday after England duty.

The report reveals that the Premier League champions may be willing to sell to Wolves once pre-season is over.

It is understood that the Midlands club submitted a £16million bid for the Ukrainian playmaker earlier this month but Nuno Espirito Santo may have to wait a bit longer to finally get his man.

OPINION

There seems to be a theme in this transfer window that clubs are very reluctant to sell players, even if they’re not first-choice, without first seeking a replacement. This must be very annoying for Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo who is probably keen to get the Ukrainian into the club during his pre-season in order to help him settle in before the start of the season. However, the 21-year-old will be worth the wait for the Portuguese manager, he can solve their midfield crisis immediately whilst also being a very good long-term solution. The midfielder proved his technical and tactical ability by playing at left-back for the English champions for a period last season and looked very comfortable, despite not being his natural position, he prefers to play in central midfield where he can control the game. The reported £16million figure seems like a bargain, but it looks like Wolves will be made to wait a while before it’s confirmed.
