Wolves are in a battle with Monaco and Lyon to sign midfielder Jean-Eudes Aholou from Strasbourg, according to Le 10 Sport.

The French sports website reports that the Molineux-based outfit are in the running to sign the 24-year-old from the Ligue 1 club, but are not the favourites to land his signature, with Lyon and Monaco ahead in the queue to sign the 6″3 (source: Transfermarkt) colossal enforcer.

The Ivory Coast international – who has two caps for his country – captained Strasbourg to a 15th placed finish in France’s top flight upon their return to the league, netting five goals in the process.

Good move for Wolves?

Yes, possibly. Aholou has been previously admired by Premier League side Brighton, and has interest from France – so it can be argued that he must be a talented player to attract these suitors.

He operates as a defensive midfielder, an area of the field which Wolves have been lacking since Alfred N’Diaye completed his loan spell in the Midlands.

Aholou would fit in perfectly to Nuno Espirito Santo’s side, providing stability to a midfield in need of improvement.

Likely to happen?

No, not at the moment. The report states that Lyon and Monaco are more likely to land the enforcer than Wolves are, which is not good news for them.

The Ligue One duo have already submitted bids to land the young ace’s services, so the newly-promoted club look like they have been pushed to one side in regards to a move.

Wolves would need to out-bid their French counterparts in order to sign him, but that does not look like a possible prospect at the moment.
