Wolves closing in on £6m signing of key Monaco man Moutinho

|

Premier League newboys Wolves are in talks to sign Euro 2016 winner Joao Moutinho from Monaco, according to the Daily Mail.

The report states that the Portugal international could sign for as little as £6million, and that he’s expected to put pen to paper on a two-year deal this week.

Moutinho’s agent Jorge Mendes has extremely close ties to last season’s Championship winners and has been key in bringing a number of big names to Molineux in recent times.

With 113 Portugal caps to his name Moutinho would bring a wealth of experience to Nuno Espirito Santo’s side, with the 31-year-old seemingly set to make his long-awaited move to England.

Good move for Wolves?

This one seems like a no brainer.

Moutinho is a top level player who would immediately form one of the Premier League’s most impressive midfield partnerships with countryman Ruben Neves.

His experience could be vital for Wolves as they look to reestablish themselves in the top flight, and at £6million he would be an absolute bargain for Santo.

Not everyone is happy with Wolves’ close relationship with super agent Mendes, but if you’re a fan of the club then you don’t care one bit when you’re signing players of Moutinho’s quality.

At 31 he’s a short-term signing, but an extremely smart bit of business for Wolves.

Likely to happen?

According to the report this one is pretty much signed, sealed and delivered. Moutinho has been a good servant to Monaco but they likely see this deal as their last chance to get any significant money for him.

This appears to be a case of that rare deal which suits everyone, with Monaco getting some cash, Wolves receiving a top quality midfielder and Moutinho finally securing that elusive move to the Premier League.
