Wolverhampton Wanderers captain Danny Batth is a transfer target for local rivals West Bromwich Albion, according to The Mirror.

The outlet report via their Live Transfer Blog (13:31) that the Wolves defender could be on his way to The Hawthorns this summer as West Brom are in need of central defenders.

The report claims that Batth is rated at £4million by his current employers and that he could be forced out of the club, with more defensive reinforcements expected to arrive in this summers transfer window.

The 27-year-old made 21 appearances in all competitions for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side last season, scoring two goals, as Wolves sealed promotion to the Premier League by winning the Championship title.

Good move for Wolves?

I think that selling Danny Batth would be the wrong move for Wolves. With loads of new players arriving and changes happening all the time, it’s vital that the club keep hold of players with local connections who the fans have a connection with. Defenders will be brought into Molineux this summer, probably better defenders than Batth, but it’s important he stays and tells new signings what it means to play for the club and what is expected of them.

Likely to happen?

Not many players have crossed the divide and joined directly from either club. It would be highly controversial, to put it mildly. However, in recent years rivalries between clubs haven’t really held up transfer negotiations like they would have in the past, so in that sense it is possible. It would be a massive decision for Danny Batth to leave his boyhood club, the club who developed him as a player and then join their most hated rivals. Even if that’s a yes, I’m not sure how Albion fans would respond to this move.
