Jack Wilshere is set to undergo a West Ham medical tonight, according to a club insider.

Ex-WHU Employee revealed on his personal Twitter account on Thursday evening that the club’s pursuit of the England international is “almost done” as they close in on their fourth signing of the summer.

The insider, who consistently breaks West Ham stories ahead of the mainstream media, explained the Londoners hope to complete the medical tonight and the media team are already preparing a “coming home” video.

Good move for West Ham?

Assuming the notoriously injury-plagued Wilshere passes a medical and can then go on to be available for three-quarters of West Ham’s matches next season – at least – then, yes, it would be a good move. The 26-year-old will come without a transfer fee after his exit from Arsenal after 17 years and, while there will no doubt be a circa £100,000-a-week contract as well as a mega signing-on fee, he is young, talented and proven enough to be a key player next season for Manuel Pellegrini’s side. His star has fallen since his wonderkid years, but Wilshere showed last season, particularly in January and February, that his mojo is still intact.

Likely to happen?

While the ‘coming-home’ video will raise eyebrows – Wilshere was pictured in a West Ham kit when he was a kid – this deal has entered its final stages. There is no more reliable chronicler of Hammers events and news than Ex-WHU Employee and it will be no surprise if there is an announcement before the weekend is out.
