West Ham director of football Mario Husillos has claimed that striker Javier Hernandez is unlikely to leave the club before the start of the new Premier League season.

Speaking to Mexican outlet Marca Claro, Husillos said he believes Chicharito will continue playing for the Hammers following the arrival of new boss Manuel Pellegrini.

The 30-year-old recently returned to training following World Cup duty with Mexico, for whom he has 106 caps.

“We have many expectations, but offers? There surely won’t be any because people know we have him. For the moment he’s not on the market at all,” said Husillos, in a big update on Hernandez’s future.

“[Pellegrini’s] style is one that favours all attacking players, because it is to maintain possession, attack, reach the area and create opportunities.”

OPINION

With many new additions coming in it will be a task for Pellegrini to balance a competitive squad. After signing last summer, Chicharito has had a frustrating year after being rotated by former boss Slaven Bilic and almost cast into the shadows by David Moyes. Chicharito, who won two Premier League titles with Manchester United, is an ambitious character who is driven to win. The 30-year-old’s recent record will not leave many European teams crying out for his services but he would definitely be a useful player for most clubs, although not guaranteed a starter in matches. If he went to the MLS or Mexican league, he’d be playing every week for sure, but things could change at the London Stadium under a new boss who is equal to succeeding at the highest level. Chicharito can score goals at vital moments and should be given strong consideration in the first team as he can be vital towards pushing West Ham up the league table.
