West Ham are feeling confident that they will seal a deal for Sevilla attacking midfielder Franco Vazquez, according to Tutto Mercato Web.

The Italian football website reports that the Hammers have made advances to sign the 29-year-old, and they are remaining positive that they can strike out a deal to bring him to the London Stadium in this summer’s transfer window.

The two-cap Italy international switched to La Liga outfit Sevilla in the summer of 2016 for a fee of £15.1 million, but now looks to be moving to East London after making 44 appearances for his club last season, contributing five goals and laying on eight assists.

Good move for West Ham?

Yes, possibly. Manuel Lanzini is set to be sidelined for the entirety of the next Premier League campaign, and the potential arrival of Vazquez could provide the attacking creativity they would be lacking without him.

The Italian would fit the bill perfectly by providing this attacking threat, but he undoubtedly needs to increase his goal count and assist tally considering he is an attacking midfielder.

Should he do that, then he will be the ideal replacement for Lanzini.

Likely to happen?

Yes, it is very likely. The report states that the Hammers are confident of getting a deal done having already made advances to sign Vazquez.

However, the only obstacle standing in the way of West Ham is the fact that Vazquez’ fellow midfielders Steven N’Zonzi and Ever Banega are likely to leave this summer, meaning his importance at the club is likely to rise – and West Ham may have stump up a higher fee to acquire his services.
