Tottenham will insist upon two key clauses being inserted in any potential sale of Marcus Edwards this summer, according to Football London.

The Trinity Mirror site claim the attacking midfielder, 19, is set to leave Spurs in the current window and talks will open imminently with the club over whether he leaves permanently or on loan.

Football London report Spurs will “certainly” attempt to insert a buy-back clause or sell-on fee in any permanent deal for the £5million-valued youngster.

Good move for Tottenham?

It is difficult to say. Edwards is potentially a brilliant wide-right forward but, equally, he could completely disappear from view in the coming years and fail to achieve anywhere near his immense promise. Mauricio Pochettino completely destroyed the wonderkid in his autobiography published at the end of last year, questioning his attitude and commitment to being a professional footballer. The ‘mini-Messi’ comparison  by Pochettino himself was not only a PR disaster but put unnecessary pressure on the player, putting him in a spotlight that he appears ill equipped to deal with. The subsequent character assassination is likely to be a key driver in the youngster’s desire to quit this summer.

Likely to happen?

It appears virtually certain that Edwards will spend the 2018-19 season away from Tottenham. Will he leave permanently or on loan? Much will depend upon the offers available to the youngster, who did his case for a big-money move no help with an anonymous loan spell at Norwich City in the second half of last season.
