The transfer market has been unbearably slow for fans at Tottenham, and they are just waiting for chairman Daniel Levy to splash some cash and give them something to get excited about.

The Lilywhites are notorious for moving slowly in the window and this summer has been no different, with not a single first team purchase or sale as the club head into the final month of trading.

In previous seasons the supporters have been rewarded for their patience, seeing the likes of Davinson Sanchez and Serge Aurier arrive last summer and Lucas Moura join on deadline day back in January, but things do not seem quite as busy behind the scenes as they have been in recent years.

With a third place Premier League finish and improvements made in Europe, Spurs need more talent to join if they are going to improve – and the perfect capture might just have been made available.

Mauricio Pochettino needs a new striker, with the London Evening Standard claiming the versatile skills of Manchester United’s Anthony Martial make the young French forward his top target, and as the Mirror claim the 22-year-old is up for sale by the Red Devils, it is time for Levy to pounce.

Fast, tricky and with an eye for goal, Martial has found himself shoehorned out in a wide position by Jose Mourinho – something Pochettino would love after seeing the one dimensional Vincent Janssen and Fernando Llorente flop up front.

Said to be up for sale at £60million, and with Manchester United reportedly reluctant to sell to an English rival, it will take a record breaking bid – the current record held by Sanchez at a reported £42million – plus all of Levy’s negotiating tactics to prise the speed demon away from Old Trafford.

His capture, while costly, would be perfect for Pochettino next season, giving Martial a fresh start in the Premier League, Spurs a forward with the X-factor and the fans something to cheer about this summer.
