Tottenham Hotspur fans have delivered mainly positive reactions on Twitter following defender Jan Vertonghen’s performance for Belgium in the World Cup last night (Monday 2 July).
The Spurs centre-back netted an impressive header from a tight angle in his country’s last gasp win over Japan yesterday in the Round of 16, meaning they will now face the formidable Brazil in the quarter-final.

OPINION
Jan Vertonghen’s performance for Belgium last night has certainly gone down well with the Spurs fans. His goal appears to be a subject of debate amongst them, and it is no wonder why – it is questionable over whether he meant to score from such an acute angle with his looping header. Tottenham players have been performing consistently on the World Cup stage of late, and this is no exception – although it can be argued that he could have ensured Belgium were more solid at the back regarding the two Japanese goals. However, should he improve on the side’s defensive performance, then he could well have a memorable tournament.
