Tottenham are willing to let Toby Alderweireld head to Manchester United for a fee in the same ball park as what Liverpool paid for Virgil van Dijk in what is a boost to Jose Mourinho’s hopes of sealing a deal, according to Yahoo Sports

The internet news outlet claim that the Premier League rivals are set to reignite talks imminently over a move for the Belgian powerhouse, with the defender and his representatives said to be keen on securing an exit from north London before the transfer window shuts at the start of August.

It is stated that negotiations between the two clubs are to take place over the coming days to discuss the possibility of a sale, with Spurs open to his departure for the right price.

Good move for Tottenham?

Alderweireld’s future at Spurs seems as good as dead and what the club need to do is pick up the best possible price for his inevitable exit.

While they would probably rather not sell to Manchester United, a move which strengthens their rivals while weakening themselves, there are few other clubs who are equipped to splash the sort of cash being demanded for his sale.

If Spurs can get a price close to what they are asking, then they will have done very well, and it should help Mauricio Pochettino get busy in what has been a slow start to the transfer window.

Likely to happen?

This one still seems very much up in the air, and with less than a month until the transfer window slams shut, there is no telling where the Belgian defender is going to end up.

United certainly seem like the frontrunners but considering his talents at the back, there could be a few more waiting in the shadows for his capture.
