Man United and Arsenal have joined the race for Croatia attacker Ante Rebic, on the eve of his country’s World Cup semi-final with England, according to Sport Bild.

Napoli are also interested in the 24-year-old, along with Tottenham, who Bild claimed have already contacted both the player and his agent over a possible move already.

Bild claim he will cost around £44million.

Good move for United?

The World Cup is very good at inflating players’ prices. £44million for a player who signed for just £1.8million after a series of loan deals seems like madness. He’s a talented player, but how good actually are his figures? Two goals in 20 international games for Croatia isn’t great and England fans will be hoping he blanks again tonight in Russia. His Bundesliga stats are slightly better – six goals and three assists in 25 league games last season, but only two goals in 24 league games the season before. 12 in 56 games total for Eintracht Frankfurt is okay and doesn’t justify such a huge price tag. Of course, a hat-trick against England tonight and the winner in the World Cup final could change all of that in an instant.

Likely to Happen?

Bild report that Bayern Munich and coach Niko Kovac are the favourites to land Rebic, and we can’t see him becoming a Man United player this summer. His goal (and overall display) in the 3-0 win against Argentina was impressive but it’s not going to be enough to land him a spot in Mourinho’s starting line-up next season. Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial both find it hard enough to catch Mourinho’s eye and they’d both go for more money this summer than Rebic.
