Newcastle fans may be about to get some good news in the transfer market, according to a reliable journalist.

Alan Nixon, the Sun’s transfer expert, has said that the club is getting “serious” about moves for West Brom striker Salomon Rondon and Bristol City’s left-back Joe Bryan.

However, he did say that Newcastle still had to sort out the finances and the politics.

Nixon made the claim on his personal Twitter account on Tuesday night.

The finances might well be very close to being sorted, as Nixon also claimed that Fulham and Newcastle were now close in their valuation of striker Aleksandar Mitrovic, who is expected to move and free up funds for Rafa Benitez.

OPINION

Newcastle fans are now getting desperate for some deals to be completed with the end of the summer transfer window looming. The key to it all seems to be Mitrovic, and what should have been a relatively straightforward deal is turning into anything but. Premier League transfers are notoriously complicated but when there’s any sniff of potentially holding out for a bargain, clubs will take advantage. And it seems to be that’s the case with Fulham and Mitrovic. They want him, he wants to move, and £20million seems relatively cheap for a striker they’re convinced can lead the line for them next season. However, they will be aware of how desperate Newcastle are to sell and the closer it gets to the window the harder it will be for them to use the funds in a meaningful way. Newcastle fans have always supported Mitrovic, but now they can’t wait to see the back of him. For the good of Newcastle, it’s imperative that he leaves quickly and that Benitez gets the money, along with the funds from Chancel Mbemba’s sale, to buy at least Rondon and Bryan.
