Newcastle United have renewed their interest in signing midfielder Aaron Mooy from Huddersfield Town, according to The World Game.

The Australian publication reports on their website that the 27-year-old enforcer is on United’s wanted list this summer, and boss Rafa Benitez has been tracking the Australia international since he played against them two seasons back while on loan at the Terriers.

However, the 5″9 (source: Transfermarkt) central midfielder still has two years left on his contract, and Huddersfield will not let him leave the John Smith’s Stadium for less than £20million, with his value doubling the £10million they paid Manchester City for him a year ago.

Good move for Newcastle?

Yes, definitely. Mooy is a midfielder full of experience, and Benitez will be lucky to have a player of his calibre in the side come the start of the season.

Despite the Socceroos’ early exit from the World Cup, he was a pivotal member of the team that almost gave eventual champions France a shock in the first group game.

Mooy is a hard-working player, and will put out a shift for his team – and he would be a fantastic addition to the Spaniard’s squad.

Likely to happen?

Depending on whether the report is true or not, a move materialising for Mooy does not seem very likely at the moment.

He cost Huddersfield £10 million last summer, but he is likely to be valued at nearly double that price now after a successful season with the club.

Owner Mike Ashley has a tight grip on the club’s transfer funds, and it does not look likely that they will spend around £15 million to land a central midfielder.
