Newcastle won their first pre-season match on Tuesday night, beating Irish Premier Division St Patrick’s Athletic 2-0 at Richmond Park, but fans were not happy with the display from striker Joselu.
Goals from Sean Longstaff and Christian Atsu made the night comfortable for Rafa Benitez’s side, but fans are scared at the prospect of going into the new season with Joselu and no new striker – and want the 28-year-old sold.
Joselu arrived from Stoke last summer from Stoke in a deal worth £5million, but only scored four goals in 32 games – a fairly accurate reflection of his record at Stoke too.
And Newcastle fans don’t see anything changing after last night’s performance.
Here are the best reactions to Joselu’s display against St Patrick’s:
If we start this season with Joselu even in the first team squad we are in a whole world of trouble

After that game tonight, Newcastle definitely need a new striker who can just score goals….. That's all we're asking for…. Gayle, Armstrong, Joselu are just not good enough #NUFC pic.twitter.com/P7hqOCNLtY

Of course Joselu misses chances. Such an awful signing.

Joselu misses chances, get used to it for this coming season. https://t.co/r2XgvHg9JW

If I’m #NUFC and Rafa, I would cut Joselu now and find a way to make Longstaff part of the first team now. Love Mo Diame’s spirit, but Longstaff has WAY WAY more potential and I think he is ready now.

OPINION:
One fan summed up exactly what he thought of Joselu saying that if he’s still at Newcastle at the start of the season, then they would be relegated. One witty fan said “Fair play” after watching Joselu last night, adding that he was doing his best to show exactly why Newcastle need a new striker. After this showing and these comments, a new striker must be the number one priority for Benitez in the last few weeks of the transfer window. The question is, who can he afford?
