With under two weeks left of the summer transfer window, Jose Mourinho needs to act fast by signing in-demand defender Harry Maguire.
The Leicester City centre-back produced a string of top performances for England as the Three Lions reached the last four of the World Cup.
Sky Sports News revealed on their website that Leicester have been approached by the Red Devils but the Foxes are desperate to keep their hands on their prized defender, who is rated around £65million.
Maguire’s career has catapulted into crazy heights after signing for Leicester from Hull City last year for £17m.
After a fine debut season at Leicester, Maguire won Leicester’s Player of the Year award and has solidified himself as one of England’s top defenders.
Maguire was not part of Leicester’s title winning miracle in 2016, but a move to Manchester could provide the Englishman with many realistic opportunities to claim major silverware. The 25-year-old needs to continue making the huge steps he has shown already towards the top of the English game and a move to United would elevate his career.
The move would positively benefit United, with Maguire showing the best of his defensive qualities in Russia this summer as well as his attacking threats. United have not won a major trophy since 2016/17 and are falling behind rivals Manchester City, who recently signed Maguire’s former team-mate Riyad Mahrez, and signing the enforcer would help them return to the glory days.
Not only is Maguire great in the air but his work with the ball at his feet must be noted. Man United duo Chris Smalling and Phil Jones do not offer that trait as well as Maguire does who has greater composure and distribution which would improve the defensive side of Jose Mourinho’s squad.
Mourinho should take the gamble on Maguire but Leicester will absolutely everything to make sure he remains at the King Power next season.
