Manchester United are one step closer to landing Chelsea winger Willian, according to the Sun.

The newspaper reports on their website that following Brazil’s exit from the World Cup after a 2-1 defeat to Belgium in the quarter-finals, the Red Devils believe they can land the 29-year-old after boss Jose Mourinho made the 5’7″ (source: Transfermarkt) speedster his top transfer target this summer.

They are said to be competing with La Liga giants Barcelona to land his signature, but United are reportedly ready to step up their quest to ensure a reunion is on the cards for Willian and Mourinho, who worked together at Stamford Bridge.

Good move for Manchester United?

Yes, absolutely. Willian was one of Chelsea’s top performers last season, netting 13 goals and laying on a further 12 assists – and his ability to run at defenders caused a lot of problems for teams last term.

He may not have had the best World Cup campaign for his country, but the fact Barcelona are also chasing his services goes to show what a talented player he is.

The Brazilian international will add a touch of attacking flair that United were lacking last season.

Likely to happen?

Yes, possibly. Now Willian’s tournament hopes are over, there is no better time to snap up the speedy attacker.

However, Barcelona are also after him, and it would not be a surprise if they managed to convince Willian to join them instead of remaining in the Premier League.

Nevertheless, Willian may be tempted at the opportunity to work with his old manager once again, and this may prove to be the pivotal factor in luring him to Old Trafford.
