Facing an uncertain future at a club is not what any player hopes to experience, especially when you have had the chance to play at a big club such as Manchester United.

The Sun have reported that their midfielder Ander Herrera has no idea if he has a long-term future with the Red Devils, and has not yet been approached by the club to extend his current deal which expires next year.

The Spaniard – who currently earns a reported £120,000 a week at Old Trafford – is said to be keen to stay at the club, but there has been no contact from the hierarchy over a new deal.

However, in light of this news, rivals Chelsea should aim to take advantage and secure a capture that would provide a much-needed boost to their central midfield.

Currently, the Blues only have Cesc Fabregas operating in the central midfield role – Danny Drinkwater is not likely to be used after only making a handful of appearances, Ruben Loftus-Cheek could be farmed out on loan, and Marco van Ginkel could face the same fate after returning from PSV Eindhoven.

The club have recently brought in Jorginho from Napoli, but he plays in a more defensive role, as does N’Golo Kante, who is bound to attract admirers after a standout season.

The Europa League-winning maestro could provide the extra depth they need in the centre of the park, linking up excellently well with fellow countryman Fabregas to form a solid partnership that could prove hard to play against.

The midfield can be a battle in matches, particularly between the big teams, and Chelsea need the Spaniard to provide this additional quality if they want to compete on the same level as Manchester City.

Herrera displayed the talent he is capable of with United, showing he is capable of fitting in perfectly with the rest of the team – and Chelsea should move for him to give their midfield the wow factor.
