Liverpool are closing in on their fourth summer signing as they look to complete a deal for Holland youth international Ki-Jana Hoever, according to Goal.

The football site claim the Merseysiders are set to add the versatile defender, 16, to their youth-team ranks after, as the Echo report, already sealing the transfers of youngsters Bobby Duncan from Manchester City and Isaac Christie-Davies from Chelsea in the last week.

Liverpool also captured Fabinho from Monaco for the senior side last month for a fee rising to £44million as Jurgen Klopp made a major splash in the market ahead of the new campaign.

Goal report striker Rhian Brewster is also set to pen a professional deal after snubbing interest from Borussia Monchengladbach and RB Leipzig.

Good move for Liverpool?

Yes. Young players develop at different rates and the outstanding players in their mid teens do not always go on to have glittering senior careers. But it is a measure of Hoever’s calibre and precocity that Liverpool’s title rivals Manchester United, Chelsea and Manchester City have all tried to sign the Dutchman and have been unable to seal deals. Goal report the versatile youngster, who can play at right-back and centre-back, will snub interest from the well-resourced trio to join Liverpool and a deal is expected to be completed in the coming weeks. It comes amid a flurry of deals from the Merseyside giants, with the highly-rated Brewster set to given the club a huge boost by signing a new contract.

Likely to happen?

Given the identity of the outlets reporting that Liverpool are close to landing Hoever, this one appears to be in the bag, barring a late hitch. Expect the Ajax player, who was a regular in the Dutch Eredivisie Under-17 league last season, to be confirmed as the club’s fourth capture at all levels imminently.
