Everton have tabled a £21 million bid to land Barcelona defender Yerry Mina, according to Goal.

The football news website reports that the Toffees have offered £21 million in order to sign the centre-back, who impressed when he represented Colombia at this summer’s World Cup – but the Catalans are only open to selling their player if there is the option of a buy-back clause.

Talks between Barcelona, who won La Liga last season, and Everton are said to have already begun for the transfer of the Colombian 6’4″ colossus (source: Transfermarkt), who netted three goals from centre-back for his country at the tournament, one of which came against England before they subsequently crashed out on penalties.

Good move for Everton?

Yes, absolutely. Everton will be in need of a top-quality centre-back due the imminent departure of Ashley Williams, and the defensive giant fits the bill perfectly.

The fact he can score from a centre-back position will be even more of a bonus to Marco Silva, who will be excited by the prospect of landing such a versatile defender.

Mina displayed his solid presence at the back when Colombia played England on Tuesday (3 July), keeping their opponents out to force a shoot out.

Likely to happen?

Yes, it is likely. Discussions between the two parties have already taken place between the two parties, and Everton have even tabled a bid to indicate their intent.

Liverpool were also said to be an interested party, but that seems to have gone under the radar for now, so Everton should make the most of the situation they currently find themselves in.

A move for Mina looks to be happening soon, and he could end up being Silva’s signing of the summer.
