Leeds are on the brink of securing a swoop for a Championship player while work continues on securing a fresh loan from the Premier League, according to reliable journalist Phil Hay.

The reputable Yorkshire Evening Post writer has stated on his personal Twitter account that with a move for Chelsea goalkeeper Jamal Blackman almost completed, there are two more moves in the pipeline at Elland Road, one a temporary switch from the top flight and one, which is said to be close, from the second tier.

Leeds have only confirmed one senior capture this summer in the shape of Lewis Baker, although Hay insists that Blackman, the Blues shot stopper, is on the verge of being announced in addition to the other two.

Opinion

This is only good news for the Elland Road faithful, who have been forced to be patient this summer. The managerial hunt at the beginning of the window seemed to set back their plans a couple of weeks and they have been playing catch up to their Championship rivals ever since. Now is the time for Bielsa and the rest of the Leeds transfer team to accelerate their plans and get some new bodies through the door – and it could be a busy week or two if all goes to plan. Still, at the moment the fans only have one new face to celebrate and that is not enough, and with hunts for the likes of Matej Vydra and Pablo Hernandez seemingly going cold, there will be worries the club are not showing the ambition expected. New arrivals needed to be bedded into the squad and the later Bielsa leaves securing their signings, the less time he has to work with them and making sure they are ready for first team action come the first game of the new season.
