West Brom’s bid to get back into the Premier League after one season ultimately depends on the transfer activity they conduct this summer and prioritising weak areas to be improved upon.

One area that could do with some more depth is the left-back position, which is looking rather depleted with only Kieran Gibbs and the 30-year-old Allan Nyom operating in that area of the park.

The Sun reported today (14 July) that Derby County boss Frank Lampard is keen on bringing Manchester United left-back Demetri Mitchell to the club for £500,000, who was on loan at Scottish Premier League side Hearts last season.

However, West Brom must hijack their Championship rivals’ bid to bring in the left-sided flyer, who would be the perfect signing to add that extra bit of depth into the back line.

Lampard is reportedly hoping that the lure of regular first-team football will convince Mitchell to join forces with him, but the Baggies are also likely to offer the youngster the same opportunity as well.

The full back used to operate largely as a winger, but was converted into playing as a full-back soon after – which means he has the speed to surge down the left flank and cause problems for his opponents.

This quality is something which Moore should be wanting to exploit, as having a versatile player like Mitchell amongst the ranks will prove pivotal to his side’s promotion bid.

The young ace is said to be weighing up his possible playing destinations for the upcoming season, so Moore has the chance to conduct talks with Mitchell right under the noses of his rivals.

Mitchell’s potential addition to the Hawthorns is the ideal solution to provide the depth in left-back that the club are crying out for, and the club must hijack any Derby bid to land him.
