Everton have reportedly had a bid for Manchester United defender Luke Shaw rejected – and fans have reacted with relief on Twitter.
The Times claim the England left-back has rejected a move to the Merseyside club after being made available for transfer by Jose Mourinho this summer.
Supporters of Everton have taken to Twitter en masse to express their delight that the player, who is said to earn £96,000-a-week at the Premier League giants – has spurned a move to Goodison Park.

Good. Another one who only plays (and stays fit) when he’s arsed. With the exception of Walcott, picking up a top 4s reject hasn’t worked out for us (and there’s a reason why these clubs don’t want these players as well).

COMMENTARY:
The reactions of many Everton supporters to their club losing out on signing Shaw is very unfair. The 23-year-old has had a wretched few years at United, but is still young enough and good enough to carve out an excellent career at Premier League level. Moreover, jibes about his weight are now wide of the mark. The former Southampton player has returned to pre-season training looking svelte and in good shape. Mourinho might not fancy Shaw, but that does not mean Everton should not. They are in desperate need of a proven left-back with his best years ahead of rather than behind him. Leighton Baines’ days are numbered and Shaw would be a quality replacement.
