A section of Everton fans have taken to social media to urge the club to sign up Colombia international Wilmar Barrios from Boca Juniors this summer.
According to Argentinean broadcaster TyC Sport, Everton are in hot pursuit of Barrios, 24, but may have to wait until January before they can trigger his £15.9million release clause.
The midfield enforcer was in top form for Colombia at the World Cup, helping his nation reach the knock-out rounds before a controversial incident where he headbutted England and Liverpool star Jordan Henderson, only to receive a yellow card.
And that has led to some Everton fans to call on the club to sign up the Boca star on Twitter, with one claiming that he is an “excellent prospect”.

Sign now

These are the type os signing Brands will make, young with a sell on value. Liverpool and FSG are perfecting it, it’s a great long term strategy for anyone below the European mega money teams.

OPINION
Although they would have been supporting England, most Everton fans would have secretly been loving that headbutt on Liverpool’s Henderson, and now it seems that the Toffees have an opportunity to make Barrios their very own player. Fans should be more excited about him really, as headbutting a Liverpool player is not all he did at the World Cup. He is fast, good both on and off the ball and seemingly has an endless supply of energy. He is quite a similar player to Idrissa Gueye, but he would still be a good signing because of that £15.9million release clause.
