Everton’s Marco Silva must strengthen his defence with Barcelona defender Yerry Mina this summer.

As reported by The Daily Star, the new Toffees boss is planning a clear-out at the club this summer, with a number of previously important players set to leave the club this summer.

One of those players is defender Ashley Williams, who was once an impressive performer at this level, but his level of performance in the last campaign left a lot to be desired. So he will need replacing and quality will need to be brought in.

FC Barcelona defender Yerry Mina is a very impressive specimen. He’s very quick, 6ft 4in tall and extremely confident with the ball. He’s a proper ball-playing defender, who is adept at dribbling out of tight situations and make telling passes into midfield, which are perfect attributes for the style of football that Everton and Silva want to play.

The Colombian can also attack the ball really well and is a real threat in the opposition box, proven by the goals for his country at the 2018 World Cup in Russia, with three in his last three matches.

Fortunately for Silva, Mina could be available this summer because, as reported by The Independent, the Catalan club are close to sealing a deal for Sevilla defender Clement Lenglet. This move, should it go through, would push the 23-year-old even further down the pecking order at Camp Nou.

This should open the door for Mina to move to Goodison Park, as it’s a perfect fit for both parties and would be financially viable, in terms of wages, transfer fee or loan fee.

Marco Silva needs to be ambitious, that’s what Everton fans want, so signing Mina would prove how serious he is about making the club successful again.
