Everton officials will meet with their Bordeaux counterparts today (Wednesday) to hold talks over the potential signing of winger Malcom, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper claim the Merseysiders will discuss the terms of the transfer as the Ligue 1 outfit hold out for their £40million asking price, which includes bonuses, to be met.

The Mail report Malcom’s representatives have discussed a five year contract worth around £80,000-a-week, which means the total cost of the deal could be £60.8million.

Good move for Everton?

Yes. Malcom is not the finished product, far from it. But he is something of an unpolished gem after demonstrating in the French top flight that he is a forward who can penetrate well organised defences and win matches with a moment of magic. His haul of 12 goals and eights assists from his wide right role in 38 matches in all competitions was impressive and he came out of a fallow period in which he appeared to be affected by the intense speculation about his future to score in the final three league matches of the campaign. Everton are certainly crying out for pace and gamechangers up front, despite the January signings of Cenk Tosun and Theo Walcott. With Wayne Rooney sold and Henry Onyekuru loaned out for another campaign, the capture of Malcom could be just the ticket.

Likely to happen?

Given the level of detail in the Mail’s report, this appears to be a real possibility. Certainly, Malcom has been extensively linked with a move to the Premier League this summer, and Everton have the financial power and ambition to win the race for his signature. He could become the club’s first senior signing of the current window.
